Funerals at St John the Baptist Church
If someone you love has died, we are here to support you in any way we can. We are here for everyone, whatever your beliefs or background.
Each person is unique—in personality, in life experience, and in the love they’ve shared. A funeral is an opportunity to give thanks for that person’s life in a way that brings comfort and hope. It is a time to say goodbye, to honour memories, and to entrust them into God’s eternal care. Many choose the life celbrations.
A Funeral Service that Reflects Your Loved One
Working with your chosen funeral director, we can offer a funeral service in church, or a service at a local crematorium or cemetery. Every funeral we conduct is person-centred—planned with care, including words, readings, and music that are meaningful to you and your family.
Memorial Services and Celebration of Life
More and more people are choosing to hold memorial services or celebrations of life at a later date. We would be pleased to plan and host these services with you, whether the funeral has taken place here, at a crematorium, or elsewhere.
Wakes and Gatherings
Our church hall is often used for wakes or celebration of life gatherings, offering a welcoming space for family and friends to share memories over refreshments. Whether the funeral is held at St John’s or at another venue, we can provide a space for you to come together.
Garden of Remembrance
We also have a peaceful Garden of Remembrance for the burial of ashes. If you feel this might be a fitting final resting place for your loved one, we would be glad to talk with you about this.
Support After the Funeral
Our care does not end with the service. We are here to support you in the days, weeks, and months after the funeral. Whether you would like a quiet chat, prayer, or simply to know you are not alone, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
St John’s Church has been helping families mark the end of life for generations, and we will be here for you too.
If I can help and support you at this time, please ring Rev Mandy Beck on 07967 596762.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Funerals
Do we need to be regular churchgoers to have a funeral at St John’s?
No. The church is here for everyone in the parish, regardless of whether they attended church regularly or not. We are honoured to help families say goodbye to their loved ones.
Can a service be held somewhere else, but with a minister from St John’s?
Yes. A member of our clergy can lead services at local crematoriums, cemeteries, or alternative venues. You can also hold a memorial service at St John’s following a cremation or burial elsewhere.
Do you provide grief or bereavement support after the funeral?
Yes. We are here for you beyond the funeral service. Whether you’d like someone to talk to, to light a candle in memory, or to join a local support group, we will walk alongside you as long as you need.
